Posted on September 1, 2016
SJC’s Visual Arts students celebrated the results of their creative and disciplined work in the art studios at the annual Student Art Exhibition in August.
Sharing the opening evening with family and friends, the College’s Year 12 artists showcased their HSC bodies of works. The diversity of forms in painting, drawing, photomedia, graphic design and sculpture impressed the many visitors who viewed the exhibition across the weekend.
The contemporary space of the Farrell Auditorium and the adjoining studios displayed work beautifully in a true salon style, allowing artworks created by students from Years 7-11 to be exhibited with the Year 12 artworks.
The exhibition was opened by Luise Guest, Director of Education and Research for the White Rabbit Collection and author of the book, Half the Sky: Conversations with Contemporary Women Artists in China. In her opening address Luise reiterated the importance of a Visual Arts education within the curriculum and then generously spent several hours viewing the student artworks before making a selection of commendations for outstanding work.
