Headmaster’s Country Visits
Posted on April 9, 2018
The Headmaster, Dr Chris Hayes, will be visiting the Central West in May 2018. We invite you to join us and other Joeys families, to learn more about a Joeys education for your son.
Boys from the country have been instrumental in building the traditions and spirit that are embedded here at Joeys. Qualities such as strength of character, simplicity, humility and concern for others are inspired by the life of St Marcellin Champagnat, the founder of the Marist Brothers, who himself was born in rural France. These values are passed on to each new generation of students and underpin many of the distinctive elements that characterise an education at Joeys.
It is a wonderful privilege to be SJC Headmaster, walking in the footsteps of the great men who have led our community for the past 137 years. My father grew up in Cassilis, near Mudgee, and was educated at the College during the period Br Louis Hughes was Headmaster. While he was here, Br Louis established the magnificent art collection and commenced the chapel construction. Dad had a lifelong affection for this unique place and he and my mother were married in our beautiful chapel in 1952.
I very much look forward to visiting the towns in New South Wales that have long sent their sons to St Joseph’s College. We hope to see many of our Old Boys and past, current and future parents at these events. I encourage you to extend an invitation to other families with a son whom you believe would fulfil his potential at Joeys. They are most welcome to attend a function at no charge and to meet with us in person. The continuity of a culture of boarders from rural and regional areas is a priority for us in this second Joeys century, as we strive to “keep the country in the College”.
This page details gatherings in Central Western NSW as well as visits to other areas of NSW. The College website www.joeys.org will have more details added closer to these dates.
I hope to be able to meet you as we visit your area this year.
