About SJC Parents and Friends

The aim of St Joseph’s College Parents and Friends (P&F) is to help create and strengthen friendships within the college community and to raise funds to help provide and maintain facilities at the college.

The P&F has an Executive President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer and a committee. The committee is made up of a number of sub-committees, comprising many parents (both past and present) who manage P&F activities throughout the year. The P&F also has parents caring for each year group called Year Representatives, who organise and coordinate activities for their respective year group. There are around 80 parents involved in P&F committees.

All college parents are encouraged to help out at some time in the canteens operated at the park at home games during the football season. The tennis canteen is also located at the park and operates almost all year round. It is run by parents involved in tennis but all parents will be asked to help out from time to time. We ask that parents assist in these volunteer duties when they can.

The St Joseph's College Rowing Club conducts a BBQ, which operates during home matches at the park. Parents of rowers operate this canteen, and they warmly welcome anyone who wishes to join them cooking sausages, steaks and onions.

The P&F fulfils a valuable pastoral role by providing informal support for parents in need (in cases of illness, death, etc.). On occasion it will also provide financial support to individual students who participate at elite levels in sport, and need a small donation to help pay their way.

Mothers and Others

An extremely active branch of the P&F is the Joeys Mothers and Others Group. This group gathers once per term for a meeting and lunch when friendships are made and renewed. A couple of times a year a guest speaker will attend the meeting. During Term 4 the group conducts a mass and lunch to farewell and celebrate the contribution o the Year 12 mothers.

Craft Group

Mothers at Joeys also conduct the Craft Group every Thursday during term time. The group meets in the P&F room, located behind the Year 12 Ref. under the college chapel. Participants meet any time from 10.30am until after lunch, and many bring morning tea and lunch for their son/s. The group is not limited to mothers – there are often grandmas, step-mums, guardians, aunties and friends in attendance and new faces are always welcome.

Major events

The P&F usually hosts a number of major events each year, culminating with the spectacular Spring Fair in November.

Joeys Cookbook

The P&F is creating a Joeys Cookbook and is looking for all kinds of recipes from the college community. Recipes must be submitted by November 2008...
