SJC Athletics Carnival

AthleticsThis year's SJC Athletics Carnival was a showcase of athletic skill, determination and the spirited enthusiasm that is characteristic of the boys at Joeys.

Athletics Convenor, Miss Mandy Heath, said the day's great success was due to the keen participation and cooperation of the competitors, and the organisation and application of the staff.

"The number of boys who competed in multiple events was inspirational," she said. "In the 3000m race alone there were 66 competitors. The Year 7 400m race looked more like start of the London Marathon - we have never had so many enthusiastic runners!"

The carnival saw a number of strong performances by boys across a range of disciplines and year groups. This, combined with the boys' enthusiasm and drive, provides a good starting point for selecting members of the Joeys team for the highly competitive GPS Athletics competition.

Miss Heath thanked all the boys and staff for their effort and participation at the carnival. "The boys are to be commended on both their behaviour and cooperation throughout the day - they were outstanding. A big thank you must also go to all the staff that assisted on the day. Each event ran extremely smoothly and without their professionalism and willingness to help, the day would not have been such a spectacular success."

Headmaster of St Joseph's College, Mr Ross Tarlinton, congratulated everyone involved in the carnival. "The spirit of participation and friendly competition was felt very clearly by all who were at the carnival," he said. "I would especially like to thank Miss Mandy Heath for her hard work in organising and running such a successful day, and for encouraging so many boys to take part in numerous events."
