The stars were certainly out in force at St Joseph’s College’s recent musical production, ‘The Best of Broadway Cabaret’.
Talented boys from the College were joined by girls from Marist Sisters College, Woolwich; Freeman Catholic College, Bonnyrigg; St Scholastica’s, Glebe; Kincoppal, Rose Bay; Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Kensington; Loreto College, Normanhurst and Monte Sant’ Angelo Mercy College, North Sydney, for the singing and dancing spectacular.
The show featured songs from some of the most popular musicals including Grease, My Fair Lady, South Pacific, 42nd Street and Sweeny Todd. A Disney medley, which included favourites from The Lion King, Beauty and The Beast, The Prince of Egypt and Aladdin, was a hit with audience members of all ages.
The dazzling singing and dancing performances were matched by the cabaret band, which was made up of some of the College’s most talented musicians. Spectacular lighting, staging and sound turned the Brother Emilian Hall into a theatre fit for Broadway and audience members were transported to a place of high glitz and glamour.
Director and Choreographer, Roger Wise, and Producer and Music Director, Alan Dawson, said they were thrilled with the audience’s reaction to the production. “The students worked extremely hard to prepare for the show and it certainly showed. Their professionalism, talent and enthusiasm made the production an absolute triumph,” they said.
“We would like to thank everyone who was involved in bringing The Best of Broadway to life. Many people worked tirelessly, both on and off stage, to ensure it was a production to remember.”
