SJC Regatta

SJC RegattaSt Joseph’s College enjoyed great success at the SJC Regatta on Saturday 14 February, with 16 crews achieving top three placings.

Conditions were difficult, with rain and a slight cross-head breeze, but the Joeys crews rowed with skill and determination. Highlights of the day included the Third VIII taking out first place in a thrilling race, and the First VIII and First IV finishing in second place in their respective races.

Convenor of Rowing, Mr Damien Mitchelmore, said the college had a great day out on the water. “All the Joeys crews represented the college strongly, which was especially pleasing as this was our own regatta,” he said. “I look forward to seeing even further progression of our crews as we get closer to the bigger regattas towards the end of the season.”

SJC RFegattaMr Mitchelmore thanked the parent volunteers and the P&F Rowing Committee for their support and assistance on the day. “The organisation prior to the regatta, and the smooth running of the day, could not have been achieved without their help. I sincerely thank them for all their efforts.”

The selling of souvenir programs on the day raised $500 for the victims of the bushfires in Victoria, which will be added to the funds already raised by the college community.  Mr Mitchelmore said he thanked everyone who contributed to the appeal. "This was an opportunity for the rowing community to support the bushfire victims, and I am very grateful to everyone who made a donation."
