
It was with a mixture of sadness and joy that the St Joseph's College community came together on Thursday 1 October to farewell the graduating class of 2009.
The Brother Emilian Hall was packed to the rafters with families, staff, Brothers and students - all wanting to wish the Year 12 students the very best for their future beyond the SJC gates..
It was also a time to thank the Year 12 boys for the many great contributions they have made - both as individuals and as a year group - to the life of the College.
A video presentation looked back on the boys' time at the College, showing just how far they have all come since their first day as a Joeys boy. Speeches by Headmaster, Mr Ross Tarlinton, and Year 12 Boarding Coordinator, Mr Pat Rodgers, included memories, expressions of thanks, and a heartfelt desire to see the boys' achieve a very happy and successful future.
"I wish you every happiness boys," said Mr Tarlinton.
Year 12 student, Liam Walker, spoke on behalf of the graduating class. His speech was a sincere expression of thanks to the Year 12 parents for providing him and his peers with the opportunity to be part of the Joeys family, and to College staff for their continued efforts to help each student become the best person he can be. Liam also made a special mention of the influence of the Brothers community at Joeys,and he thanked them for their friendship, guidance and prayers.
At the conclusion of the assembly, each Year 12 student was presented with an SJC Old Boy tie, a symbol of his graduation from the College.
The official Year 12 celebrations will continue with the Graduation Mass and Award Night and the formal.
The boys will begin their Higher School Certificate examinations on Tuesday 20 October 2009.
