Country / Rural Boarding students – Travelling outside the Opal network
Boarding students (Country/Rural) will require a Boarders Pass to receive free travel on NSW TrainLink Regional Services and long distance coach services.
Country Boarders travel to and from St Joseph’s College mainly on TrainLink long distance coach services. However, it has become increasingly frequent for XPT services to be used. Students on coach services are collected at the College gates or from Central Station and are usually dropped off at the railway station at their home destination.
On return trips, students on coaches are dropped off at the College gates; students on trains alight at Central Station. Where feasible the College provides a connecting bus service to and from Central Station.
Application forms are available from Student Services office.
Country Boarders Bookings
Bookings are made by parents through the College. An email is sent to all parents of Country Boarders advising bookings are open. To request a seat for your son(s) bookings must be completed by the closing date. All bookings received by the College are sent to TrainLink; bookings not made by the due date cannot be accepted by the College. Late bookings are to be made directly with TrainLink and will be usually be allocated to a regularly scheduled TrainLink service, NOT a school service.
TrainLink has strict luggage restrictions. Students are permitted to take a maximum of two bags, each weighing no more than 20kgs and not more than 70cm long, 60cm high and 50cm wide (combined). They may also have one item of hand luggage not weighing more than 5kg.
