Cow Day was the day that the country came to the city. Exploring concepts from the Stage 4 Technology, Food and Agriculture and Digital Technologies curriculum, Year 7 students had the opportunity to integrate their classroom experiences and learning with real-life examples. Engaging in learning outside the classroom, students explored the various processes involved in the dairy industry including cheese making and dairy farming.
The highlight of the day for many of the boys was the milking of the cows and the butter-making race. With guest speakers from Oz Harvest discussing the concept of food security, students were posed questions such as, how secure is our food in Australia; and how can we tackle the problem of food wastage? The third session of the day encompassed hands-on coding of small robots to complete tasks, and cyber security, allowing students to further develop their critical and creative thinking skills.
