New experiences all round for Year 7

Posted on February 20, 2020

The city and country have always met at Joeys, and the Year 7 boys of 2020 are no exception. At Headmaster’s Assembly today, Charlie Wall, a fifth-generation Joeys boy from Bukkulla in north-western NSW, and Matthew Athans, from Balgowlah, gave warm and funny speeches about their first four weeks at Joeys and how new friendships and support from older boys were highlights.

Charlie also spoke about the contrasts between life at home on his family’s 4000-acre merino sheep stud and Hereford cattle property, and his new life at Joeys. “This is the first time I have been away from home when we are shearing so I am a little bit sad but I know the Joeys program will keep me busy,” he said. Matthew, whose older brother Dominic is in Year 9, said he would never forget his first day walking through the gates of St Joseph’s College. “I have met boys from places very different to me. I have met boys that will be my friends for life,” Matthew said.
