Community groups

The P&F is a volunteer organisation open to parents, carers, family members and friends of St Joseph’s who would like to support the College. Past parents and carers (1881 Joeys Past Parents) are also an integral part of the College community, and they are part of the P&F Association as well. There are many different roles volunteers can play in the P&F depending on their available time, skills and desired level of involvement. Just some of the opportunities for involvement are:

• Friends of Joeys Music
• Friends of Joeys Drama
• Craft @ Joeys
• Spring Fair
• Art show
• Year Representatives
• Food Committee
• Clothing Pool

• Special projects such as the highly successful Joeys cookbook

Craft @ Joeys

Current and past Mothers at Joeys also conduct the craft group every Thursday during term time. The group meet onsite from 10.30am until after lunch and many bring morning tea and lunch for their son/s. The group is not limited to mothers – there are often other family members and friends in attendance and new faces are always welcome.

Major events

The P&F usually hosts a number of major events for the Joeys community including a spectacular social and fundraising night, a sports lunch and the fabulous Spring Fair in November. Participation in the P&F is a valuable and enjoyable part of the Joeys experience, and St Joseph’s is extremely grateful for the generous support it receives from dedicated members of the College community.

A young man’s relationship with St Joseph’s College does not need to end when he leaves school. Through membership of the SJC Old Boys’ Union (founded in 1898), he can continue to access and be part of the very strong, supportive Joeys community for which the College is renowned.

The objectives of the SJC Old Boys’ Union are to promote the interests of the College and its Old Boys, foster a spirit of mateship and support between Old Boys and the College community, and provide bursaries to sons of Old Boys in need, as well as to rural students via the College’s “Boys from the Bush” bursary program. The Old Boys’ Union provides a link for the College to more than 14,000 Old Boys spread across Australia and most countries of the world.

Examples of functions and activities annually organised and supported by the SJCOBU include:

• Class Reunions
• A Visitation and Welfare program for Old Boys experiencing times of illness and need
• Careers Nights for Year 11 students
• An Annual Dinner for graduating Year 12 students
• Jacks’ at the Park in winter
• Communication through the “Cerise and Blue” magazine three times a year
• A Mentoring Program (older Old Boys helping younger Old Boys)
• Support of the Banksia Project for Men’s Mental Health

JPP1881 is SJC’s Past Parents Association for mums and dads who no longer have a son enrolled at the College. A parent’s relationship with St Joseph’s does not stop simply because their son is no longer a student.

With this in mind, we invite all past parents to become part of 1881 Joeys Past Parents.

JPP1881 was developed as a response to the sudden loss of connection with the College that many families describe when their son completes his education and becomes an SJC Old Boy. JPP1881 ensures past parents are kept informed and continue to feel included in the life of the College. There is no charge to become a member of JPP1881.
